Chapter 22: Final Magazine Advertisement

When looking at some of the advertisements, most of them have an image of the band. This may be a problem for me because of copyright on all of the images of The Temper Trap, but as I did some more research I found that some indie advertisements have a significant feature from the album and a basic background as advertisement. This is going to be my approach and I am aiming to extract the title from the digipak design and create a magazine ad that will, as the digipak, portray the band's individuality. I am going to stick to the same colour theme as it will assure similarity and the relationship between the album and its advertisement.

My finished product is shown below;

Chapter 21: Digipak Process & Final Product

Earlier in the year I had decided to create a similar styled album cover that The Temper Trap already had at the time. I wanted to incorporate the mosaic type pattern and the signature styled writing as part of the design, one of the main features I wanted for the digipak design was the main image that would be used to represent the band and its style of music. After looking through my research of the genre, Indie, I came to the conclusion that it is the type of music that is down to earth and more based around life events instead of 'sex, drugs and rock n roll'.
After take several hundreds of photographs I was able to choose this image;

What I liked this photo was the contrast between the silhouettes of the tree and it's branches, with the blue sky behind. I felt that this was extremely suitable for the band as it creates a unique type of imagery towards The Temper Trap and also portrays their style of life; Their music is the outline of the trees that reach out to so many different people, cultures and age groups and we are able to see how far these musicians have reached to satisfy every aspect of their target audience. This also indicates that the album has something for everyone and doesn't have to be loved by Indie lovers alone, but by anyone.
I then began to experiment with mosaic type of effects using Adobe Photoshop CS4. Below are my favourite three effects using the image above;

1.
2.

3.

The first effect was automatically the type of effect that I wanted but I began to feel like this type of effect was extremely similar to The Temper Trap's current album cover and so I decided to go for the next best thing. The second effect was ideal for having both similarity and conflict for my album cover and so after I had finished contrasting the darker and lighter colours of the image, cropping the image to the right size with the more detailed part of the photo was done, I was able to begin looking at the logo for The Temper Trap. I wanted to keep the logo in the top left hand corner as I felt that this was something the band would do to portray their individuality.
My top three logos are shown below;

1.

2.

3.

As you can see, the third logo attempt is different compared to the first two, the reason for this was as I was experimenting, I placed the logo in different areas of the image to see the certain type of effects that would be created and this certain image was a possibility that I thought could work, but after looking at them again I felt that the first one was more appropriate for the band. It supports the individuality of the band and gives the audience the sense of importance as it seems the band signed the front of the album.
It was then on to the title of the album and the fonts that I would use and also the location of the title. These are shown below;

1.

2.

3.

I felt that when it came to this part of creating the digipak, the title becomes very important for the design and so I struggled finding the one font/position to make the album look professional but to also keep the individuality of the band. For these two specific reasons I felt that the first design was suitable.

Chapter 20: Final Music Video

I have officially finished my filming. Several tweaks were made to the video compared to the animatic. I felt that i could do a lot more in the narrative than what I had planned and is shown in the animatic. I added more shots to the video to create a sense of timing and accuracy as well as an upbeat and interesting narrative story that could be interpreted widely by its target audience, thus giving them a deeper meaning of the video and the sense of a connection between the band and them, personally.
